Safe Places for the Advancement of Community and Equity (SPACES) is a leadership development and community building organization. The mission of this organization is to create communities of HOPE (Healing, Opportunity and Possibility for Everyone).
The organization seeks to fulfill its vision by bridging the gap between imagination and impact through training programs and helping leaders bring their ideas to life. Community residents identify bold and visionary projects they want to work on and we provide them with guidance and support to make it happen.
The organization also fulfills its vision by working with community leaders to organize monthly Conversation Circles. The circles promote 5 Rs – Reflection, Rejuvenation, Reimagining Race, Relationship Building and Resilience. Conversation Circles also help to cultivate the skills of resilience and perseverance. They help people to get over when they are ready to give up.
Renee Patterson, President of the Highland Dwellings Resident Council, said, “SPACEs has been a powerful force in this community. They have continuously supported us in conducting our monthly resident meetings and have always been available to offer training and guidance. They’re an inspirational organization that has unleashed a new level of empowerment in me as a leader.”
